Are you all as stumped as I am ? :) I'm assuming because of its shape it's of the shell case variety rather than bag charge ? And being black it's a service round ?

Some measurements would be nice, length, any identifying lettering or marks, thickness of the body from bore to OD.

Can you measure the circumference of the sabot, well, the third you have, and then with some basic sums we can work out the diameter to help clear that one up.

Dave.

The rubberized coating is to seal all the gasses off from getting between the petals and wedging them in the barrel.

Could be the German 120 mm DM 53

It makes sense that it would be the German one. You are in that part of the world, and none of the U.S. Manufactured ones that I have seen have the flats on the sides or holes through the front.

You're also in the right part of the world for the UK 120 mm APFSDS. The shot for the Challenger was painted black. 400 mm length is about right for that shot.
