A package was shipped Jan7 2013 and arrived in Texas this last Monday ! Perhaps a new record, but a happy ending never the less. As buyer I take the responsibility of it arriving or not as the seller has no control after it's sent.
Inside was a note from Royal Mail ;
"I found a letter from Royal Mail saying the box was opened for inspection on the other end for "undeclared dangerous goods." It said that the x-ray thought they were dangerous, but when they opened them, they found they were not."
So everything is scanned by a gormless computer which just flags things. So when shipping out, aside from the obvious of the item being empty, it has to be seen to be empty, that is wide open for inspection and clean too. I would recommend tagging the item as empty and inert and in the event of a dummy or drill type which can't be opened perhaps a technical data sheet explaining the thing would be helpful if it's looked at.
This is not necessarily a bad thing and it really requires the same due diligence as before except now you KNOW it will be inspected in some way. The good thing here is that a clearance from the UK would be quite good to have on the receiving end as well.
Well I wasn't in any hurry either :tinysmile_cry_t2:
