Hi Harry, thats a very unusual item, not seen one of those before.........do you have any documentation on this one??

thanks for showing regards Kev

Hello Kev! No there are no documents over it. There is only 4 pieces well-known. Harry

Very interesting!!!

I notice that the fuze head appears to be unmarked, are there any markings on any of the five known existing fuzes which may give any clue as to when they were manufactured??
If there is no documentation for this type of fuze, does anyone know what its intended use was (ie what sort of bombs it was fitted to?) ?

I believe that the type 17 long delay fuze couldnt be fitted to the standard 50kg bomb due to its overall length......this smaller fuze would fit, so I guess it would work with the 50kg, however, given the relative small size of a 50kg would it warrent such a fuze?

Thanks Harry for posting the pictures and congratulations on finding such a rarity!!

kind regards Kev

I also have the opinion that this kind of igniter in small 50 kg bombs built wurde.er has no label or stamp.

Thanks Harry...

From the photos the clockwork looks identical to that of the type 17, could you confirm that is the case.

I realise that the time delay for these varied with the different marks of fuze, for example the type 17 had a max delay time of 72 hours and the 17B had a max delay of 2 hours (120mins) [these being the setting times, there was a +/- of 10% which raised the delays to 80hours and 132 mins respectively)

Is there any way of determining the maximum delay for this particular fuze from the internal clockwork??

Lots of questions, and dont worry I'm not really expecting exact answers, more thinking aloud and throwing it out there as it were!!!

regards kev

Hello! The Fuze has been found without clockwork, with four others on the grounds that test site of the Luftwaffe in Rechlin. When I saw the fuse was immediately clear to me that there must be a part of the experiment! It has no Stempel.meiner think it is a time bomb of sollte.Wie be installed in 50 kg bombs as booby-trapped bombs in the large (250kg) and more unexploded bombs were, which were equipped with the igniter 17 are, left as dud, so as not to later on entschrfen. Was you knew was the beginning of a detonator was built with clockwork until the bomb on an hourly or daily explodierte.Diese with time fuses, were only intended for the civilian population.
This igniter is but never got to use, it is purely experimental lighter. I hope that translates translator of Goggle my opinion correctly into English. Harry

Thankyou Harry for the detailed explaination!!

Even with the count now up to 6, I think it is safe to say that these are extremely scarce fuzes!!! Congratulations on finding one for the collection.

kindest regards Kev
