Smoke Grenade N120

I am guessing this is not a military grenade but am interested to know more about it. I picked it up after a mock battle. At first I thought it was a regular army smoke grenade but then I noticed the emission holes were on the top(4 off ) instead of the usual 1 in the base. The grenade has discoloured due to the heat generated and I wondered what the original colour was? Cheers Gary

It is certainly a 'commercial' grenade from Pains Wessex (probably dates it to around 1995 although it should be marked with a fill date). In reality it is a design from the the excellent team at Haley and Weller (which was absorbed into PW and is now part of Chemring). I dont believe that the N120 was purchased by the British Army but a development of this type of grenade produced the N130 series which looks much the same. The N130 series was purchased by our military and saw service as:

Red: N130 L70A1
Green: N132 L68A1
Blue: N133 L71A1
Yellow: N135 L100A1
Orange: N136 L69A1
Purple: N137 L101A1

I hope I have got those right, anyway you get the gist.

Thanks Bonnex, Wasn't sure if it was a new design with the 4 emission holes. There is no date or lot number as these have been "removed". At least I know it's from the mid 90's. Cheers Gary
