Picked this up with some training grenades this weekend, no idea what it goes to. Any ideas? Haven't decided whether to break the seal and open it or not.

Inside the tin will be a thing that looks like a motor.

Synchro Generators were used in old control systems for transmitting position information.

This one was probably used in US Navy fire control systems.

I was working on a ship about 20 years ago and we had a problem with the gyro data transmitter. I was sent a couple of these tins from the beach and used one to fix the unit. It had been in the tin for 40 years and worked perfectly.

They are visually quite boring and worth more sealed in a can.

There are several on ebay if you want to see what is inside the tin.
