Tail Fin

Hi could anybody tell me what this is please,I hope i have put this in the right section, i was given this today and i am assuming its a bomb tail of some sort, its just over 15 inches long and the fins are 4 inches dia and what appears to be a brass end bit at the top,

Hi i am still not having any luck with this one, i have cleaned it up since and there was a brass tube soldered in it and about 2.5 inches long held in place with a grub screw,

Have you considered that it could be from a wind vane or such, something non-ordnance related? Noting that the tube wall thickness seems pretty light and if no one recognizes it.... Just a thought. Does it have a history that leads toward ordnance? Found on a known range, etc?
 
I was wondering if it was from one of the really early aircraft bombs, perhaps a development of the small flechettes/darts. May be worth studying some of the photos of early bombs.
It looks interesting whatever it is.

Hi Dave, that was my first thought and have seen a pic that was very close to it but cant find it on line as yet but will keep looking has anybody got any earlyWW1 bomb pics ?

This looks familiar Andy......got a feeling it's a level indicator from one of those old small underground water reservoirs that used to be dotted about in rural areas years ago.

If I remember correctly one side of the fin/vane was painted white and t'other side black....some were circle shaped and others like yours
