First published in 1975,the story of the invention of the torpedo, a good read following the life of Robert Whitehead, a little known English man who invented the modern torpedo ,available through Amazon Market place
Forgot to mention the Von Trapp connection for all you musical lovers on site ,shame Whitehead never got any recognition from the British establishment for his invention that nearly cost Britain 2 world wars
In addition to the "Von Trapp" connection, the other point worth mentioning are the Appendix 1-10 which documents the "Torpedo Specifications and Performance" covering most of the major countries - including UK, Germany, US, Italy & France.
For those that are interested, one of Gray's other books "19th Century Torpedoes and their Inventors" is worth a read................even more interesting is that a majority of the book research material came from an Australian researcher from Melbourne University, who I managed to track down last year.
He will also be attending the Whitehead Torpedo Conference in Rijeka (Croatia) in May and presenting on another Aussie Torpedo inventor - George Murphy:
