Cutaway model of a Jugoslav metal free TMA-5 anti tank mine. This rectangular mine has four cornerpieces that allow stacking for storage, transport and stacking two or more mines for better effect when burried.
The mine uses the UANA-1 pressure fuze which uses friction to ignite. A plastic firing pin is placed above the friction compound (red) and with a certain pressure a small edge breaks away, allowing the firing pin to move into the friction coumpound which ignites. The flame of the friction compound moves down through a small hole into the detonator –the only metal part- which detonates the booster charge PETN (pink), which ignites the main charge of TNT, consisting of two rectangular blocks measuring 262x131x54 mm.
In the top cover a rectangular breaking edge is injection moulded which collapses when a weight of between 100 to 300 kg is applied to the top cover, activating the UANU-1 fuze.
Two slots are placed left and right from the booster charge, with one empty, and the other housing a stiffener with holes through which a rope is placed, acting as a carrying handle. It can also be used to attach booby trap fuzes.
In the long side of the top cover a slot is placed which houses an UANU-1 fuze with detonator. It can be closed with a lid. In this way the mine is allways delivered with a fuze present.
Length : 305 mm
Width : 275 mm
Height without cornerpieces : 99 mm
Height with cornerpieces : 110 mm
Weight : 6,6 kg
Explosive charge : 5,5 kg TNT
Activation pressure : between 100 and 300 kg
Fuze : UANU-1
The mine is found in : Afghanistan, Angola, Bosnia, Chad, Kroatia, Kosovo, Lebanon and Namibia.
