Tubes Vent Electric and Percussion Sealing, for naval guns, also Tanks

AE501

HONOURED MEMBER RIP
Here are the UK tubes which started in late 19th century and stayed in service through a lot of marks, until all ship and coast defence guns became obsolete in UK. The term 'sealing' was dropped somewhere between the 2 World Wars. The only one I know is missing is Tube Vent SA Cartridge. This was a standard .303 inch cartridge, but with different base markings.

The first one is a sectioned Tube Vent Electric Large .5 inch and a base view. The base is made proud of the rim.
The second one is a Tube Vent Percussion Large .5 inch and a base view. There is also a sectioned one of these showing the large grains being used at that time. This has the maker B&S (Bullpit and Son) which came up in a previous thread about 1 inch Aiming Rifle and Nordenfeldt.
The Third one is a Tube Vent Percussion Small .4 inch and base view.

You will notice that the percussion tube bases are notched and the electric ones are plain. This is because both types of tube were in use for different guns on the same ship and is to identify them in bad to non existent light conditions. The large ones were used on various marks of 15 and 16 inch guns, but also on different marks of smaller calibres, also 18 inch coast defence. Once the Navy standardised on the various 4.5 inch guns, which used primers, the need to notch became unnecessary.

The fourth one is for US 155mm M109 and doubtless other US guns.
The fifth one is a German tube for the 155mm FH70.

I have put tank igniters and tubes in here to round things off.

The long item, which has 44 flash holes, is an early Igniter No 1 for use with the 120 mm L1 gun on the Conqueror tank. This had a separate primer which you could screw into the end when getting ready to go. There are several views. I have put this view of a Conqueror range target tank, taken at Hohne Ranges, W Germany, December 22nd 1973. It was cold.

The last item is the Tube Vent Electric .625 inch for use with the various Challenger 120mm guns.
