Czech Skoda 3,7cm Pzgr. patr. 34 (t)
Cutaway model of a Czech Skoda 3,7cm Pzgr. patr. 34 (t) for the Skoda 3,7 cm KPÚV vz. 34 anti tank gun. This gun was also used in the T-32 tank-destroyer, de LT vz 34 light tank, and the Lt Vz 35 -Panzer 38 (t))-. The cartridge has a steel projectile, on top of which a piercing cap is soft soldered. An ogive shaped hole is drilled in the base of the projectile, which houses a small cartboard container housing the explosive charge of 8 grams Pentolit or TNT. On top of the cartboard container half a bakelite sphere is glued, which prevents the projectile from exploding prematurely through heat radiation to the explosive charge during impact. The base fuze PKZ-25 is screwed in the base of the projectile.
Upon firing the projectile, the two steel balls in the base of the fuze are fixated in backward position by inertia, fixating the firing pin. As soon as the projectile has left the barrel and the acceleration has declined, the centrifugal force throws the steel balls outward, climbing the chamfered wall of the brass firing pin housing forward, untill they fall in the groove in the steel fuze housing.
The firing pin is now free to move forward, kept in the backward position only by a light spring.
Upon impact, the firing pin is swung forward -riding the spring- igniting the firing cap (red), which ignites the short pyrotechnic delay (black) -that enables the projectile to pierce the target before exploding inside the target-, which ignites the heat sensitive detonator (light blue). This will detonate the explosive charge in the projectile.
The shellcase is brass made and has a percussion primer screwed in the base of the shellcase. In top of the primer a brass black powder magazine is screwed, this black powder is used to simultaniously ignite the main powder charge in the shellcase.
The main charge in the consists of 151 grams Ngl. Str. P – M36 – 210 x 6 x 0,6mm.
This means Nitroglycerin Streifen pulver type M36, long 210mm, 6mm wide en 0,6mm thick. Streifen pulver means powder strips.
Cartridge length : 377mm
Length shellcase : 263mm
Projectile length : 139mm
Projectile weight : 0,815 kg
Penetration : all at 30 degrees from vertical
@100 mtrs : 37mm
@ 500 mtrs : 31mm
@1000 mtrs : 26mm
@1500 mtrs : 22mm
