Not aluminium but tin coated steel. It was filled with picric acid which may not be in contact with steel.

Hello Tim,Some people could say you paid a lot of money but not to meny know (perhaps besides russian collectors) That it is not normal M1914 wich was filled with picric asid, ammonal or scheiderite. It is russian incendiary grenade model 1914.You can even seen red paint.Explosive M1914 was painted green. He was filled with thermit .Very nice item.Im also looking for one.

About 10 years ago a batch of these grenades came on the market, story was they were found in a cache.. going price in US at the time was $300-500. they were described as gas grenades, originally loaded with chloropicrin. Most did not have the u shaped tube carrying the flash over the top of the grenade. This example is certainly the best one I have seen and if you need this for your collection, not over priced.

I was not showing this as part of my collection. It was simply an outstanding example of a personal favorite and fascinating grenade. If it were mine, thread title would have been something like, "LOOK WHAT I GOT, LOOK WHAT I GOT!" My thoughts when posting were that, If some guys, like me, might enjoy seeing such a gem of a piece! Now, thanks to Grenades, I do have a 1914, and am just as proud it as i would be with the subject of this thread. Pictures soon coming, and thank you Simon!!!!

Not a great photo I know, will post more soon. Again thanks to Simon for the addition to collection which I'm starting. It's a "WINTER WAR" collection . Id like to thank another member, Rupix for the frag sleeve,!!!
