Unidentified Studded Projectile

Hi,
Can anyone help me with identification of this studded shell?
It is approx. 9cm in diameter, including the studs, and 16cm from top to bottom.
The only markings are "M7" stamped on 2 of the studs.
If anyone can help, I would love to know the nationality, period of use and the weapon it was used with.

Hello! This is a French 4 pounder System - La Hitte - dating from around 1870. The nickname is warts grenade. Go out and Goggle search La Hitte. Greeting Harry
