Unknown Aluminium Shell Fuse

Hi,

I picked this up at the local car boot. My best guess is that it's a postwar British HE fuse, but other than that I haven't got much idea.

Thanks,
Mark

It's a fuze for a British WW2 4.5" anti aircraft shell , I think , but I can't remember the number . It would have had a conical tip with graduations on it . Hope this helps .

either a no209 or no210

Thanks everyone. It's a No209 II as I've compared it to some pictures on the web and after a closer look I've found some remnants of the '209 II' marking. For some reason I thought it was more modern. Presumably metal detectorists find these regularly?

Cheers,
Mark

This is what it would have looked like inside....

Thanks for the pictures. It's interesting to know there's a clockwork mechanism entombed within it.

Presumably it was most likely fired during the Blitz? I think there's also a very faint '39' on it which is hopefully the year of manufacture.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark.
Yes , the SE of England would have been ankle deep in them during the war . We used to find loads of them when I did metal detecting [by permission] many , many years ago .

Mabye of interest: it is a Swiss Tavaro design (and licence to the UK or even made by Tavaro).
