Another mystery - any clues on what this may have been used for?

It appears to be a early /vintage hand held firing mechanism - but used to fire what?

Have you seen something similar before on a battleship - what period?
Any ideas on what type(s) of weapons it was used on/for?

It has what looks like a Niphan plug on it. They are still made in the UK. They have been used on British Military kit for many years.

I think they were also manufactured in other commonwealth countries.
