A bit more info - namely dimensions, any markings etc would be good!!
Are the floor tiles 12 x 12 inches??
Looks like a 25 pounder but not sure fuze is right - plus wouldn`t expect many to pop up in USA!
155mm? 105mm? - ridiculous - sorry need more info!

Thanks for response,hicky1300. 4.20 dia. On rifling, oall length 19''.no markings other than timer, lead or zink tip.

A retired fireman?
Moonlights as an EOD/BD bod does he?
Fuze more likely aluminium - hence the deteriation by corrosion. (lead doesn`t rot nor does zinc - which is why you plate things with it).
I`m with SG as to the integrity of this item.
A picture of the base would be good.
Thanks for the dimensions - going to have a look into that - but 105mm looking favourite?
I would ask you to weigh it but feel the less you move it etc the better!!
Fuze looks to be just a timed one so poss HE/sharapnel for airburst? Given the corrosion though I could well be wrong.

We see a number of the UK calibers from time to time, but most are better described as Commonwealth and come down from Canada.

Hicky 1300, i.d is 3.187, fine threads. Look i'm a new be at ordnance history. I have researched online for weeks now. Havnt seen anything like it. Not sure what eod is but i dont want them showing up on my doorstep. My mother is 80yrs old i do this for her . We are not collectors, she wants to sell it to a collector that would luv to have. So is this a rare find or a boat anchor..thanks bayou..3.187 ON I.D 001.jpg

Good point US - forgot our Canadian Cousins!
25 pounder as I recall measured around the 4.5 inch caliber so I think given Bayous measurement of 4.2 105mm is more realistic
Also again the fuze is an issue. If it was a 25Pdr it would usually have a No117 for HE or no221 for BE smoke, and whilst this fuze is definitely not a 117 it does not look like a 221 as there was not an aluminium lower part I think it was either brass(like the increment rings) or steel.
The colour is also an item of note

Cheers for info & pic Bayou.
Looks perfectly safe - Didn`t mean to scare, but better safe than sorry.
I`m going for a 105mm base ejecting smoke - no idea as to fuze.
The 25 pdr option is still out there with a No221?

I know everything is bigger in the States but over here a 25pr is about 3.3in calibre.

Looks like an old 105mm training round
They were painted black
The fuze looks like a 500 series

WONDER IF ANYONE COULD DATE THIS PROJECTILE AND WHAT FORCES USED IT, COUNTRY OF ORIGIN. 105 HOWI. really???
