Unusual headstamp

[Weasel]

This case or whats left of it was found in Plymouth in a garden in the 80s near the site of a ammunition barge explosion that was caused during an air raid in WW2, can anyone help with the identitiy of the case, the headstamp is a mystery to me.

Thank you very much for all the info, this makes it interesting as there were some french ships and a submarine in the area during the 2nd world war, i will do some research along those lines.
