Got this today, an unusual No 36 Filler with a square central hole. Will need an allen key to fit or remove it from a gren.

Anyone with an idea which country produced it? I reccon it could be from New Zealand but would like confirmation.
One for the collection anyway.
Thanks.

Andy

Hi Fragman,

thanks for the info, great forum too.

The inside of the fiiler hole is marked WHE, William Henry Enstone which confirms its New Zealand origin.

Best wishes

Andy

Actually Fragman, this is quite a good design for a filler screw.
I wonder why it wasnt taken up universally with the production of the Mills grenade. It takes considerably less zinc alloy to make one and therefore contributing to a very big saving in metal and production costs. I suppose we will never know. I suspect it might have been all the retooling costs etc that would have been incurred, especially during wartime and therefore production might have suffered.

Hi Andy. I suspect like most of lifes problems the answer lies in politics, patents and money. Cheers

A very useful link to a good site. It also identifies a rather odd lever I've got as being for a NZ money box Mills. Thanks for that, it's been a mystery for the last couple of years.
