Unusual Shinkle Grenade Body

I have been meaning to post this for awhile and just got around to taking some pictures thanks to severe winter weather and cabin fever.

No doubt a Shinkle Frag Grenade Body, however note that the area that retains the safety pin and aligns the spoon has been welded over. All three body holes are fully threaded and no parts are present. The red paint finish appears to be very old and I cleaned an accumulation of dust and grime from the body prior to taking photos.

Possibly a factory reject body or purpose built for dummy throwing ???

Has anyone seen one like this or any ideas?

Stay safe,

Frank

Quite possible as that appears to be the same color paint used at that time for practice.
