It is my understanding a few of the US 4.7 inch guns made it to France and fired a few rounds before the end of WWI. What I have here is the shorter howitzer case. I do not believe many howitzers were made and none were shipped to France. I was only prompted to research this topic upon finding this case, as it did not fit into my concept (only guns - no howitzers)of US 4.7 inch weapons at that time.
