I found an box of US 9mm Parabellum marked M1 do you know what it was meant for? My only guess would be for the Johnson 9mm Carbine M1 produced from 1985 to 1986 for the US Army but it is a wild guess.
Anyone?
The "M1" is exactly that, "Model 1" just as for example you have ".30 M1". The U.S. made M3 Grease guns in 9mm calibre for use by the OSS and resistance groups in Europe during the war and this ammunition was standardised as "M1" for that weapon. It was also suppplied to Great Britain in large numbers under Lend Lease arrangements post 1941. Some was steel cases.
Winchester made 9mm however did not use the M1 designation on their labels though.
Ray or one of the other U.S. collectors can probably give more details.
