US M67 grenade

I wondered, how come the M67 has remained in US service for so long/has not been replaced by some more modern/advanced type?

Why change something this simple with a well known efficiency ?
In the French Army, we still use the DF37 with minor changes. However, the fuze has undergone some changes. Same for the M67

To my knowledge I believe that it was the Mills No. 5 which had the longest service in the armies from 1915 to 1972, so it's true why change when the product meets the demand

I wonder a bit though we used to have both offensive and defensive grenades now we've gone from the offensive version in favor of a one size fits all. We've advanced the non lethal versions a bit and lost a lot of the gas varieties.

Seems like a bean counter got involved more then tactical people.

The Mills No. 5 only lasted from April 1915 to January 1917 when the No. 23 Mk II took over and the No. 36 ran from 1917 to 1972. So the No.36 was the one with long legs....

I believe that the U.S. M33/M67 Series has past the 58 Years in service mark.

The US seems to once again be fielding an offensive grenade - the M111 - as of 2021, having retired their last type - the MK3A2 - in (or from?) 1975.

You're right, but only the ears have evolved on this model, the filling cap, the spoon... but the operating mechanism and the casing haven't really evolved, so we can consider that it's almost the same. A novice won't necessarily see the difference between a No. 5 and a No. 23.
