US Proof Slug

Hello,

I know proof shots for artillery (called "boulet d'épreuve" in french) but what means exactly the designation "slug" ?
Is it a proof round for special test ?
Why this 90mm slug for Recoilless Rifle is so strange ?

The 120mm projectile shown, is as far as I know a proof projectile for a 120mm APFSDS projectile, I have one similar for a 105mm projectile.

As for the term slug, one definition is "a lump, disk, or cylinder of material such as plastic or metal".
The projectile body is not much more than a machined cylinder of steel, which is why the term "slug" is used.

That is one wild looking 90mm for sure!
