US soldiers with French mortar 58T

I have never before seen a photo of US soldiers serving a crapouillot. If the information on that photo is correct - March 1918 and location well east of Verdun, then that unit must have been attached to the French Army. That makes sense as that weapon was not given to the American forces under American command - my understanding. I do know the 42nd Rainbow Division was part of the AEF starting with the St. Michel offensive in October. General McArthur was commanding a brigade of it in the Argonne (Verdun).

The 42nd Rainbow division was one of the first four US divisions arriving in in France by mid 1917. By March 1918, they were holding a quiet French sector in the Vosges mountains. The location and timing seem correct for this photo.
