V40 grenade query

The photographs show a regular practice version (for scale) next to a V40 that has a steel tube welded to the back end with 4 spot welds.
The tube is 34mm long and 34mm wide (external diameter) 26m (internal diameter).
The hole for the fuze to screw into is threaded and of the same diameter as the one on the practice version.
It doesn't appear to have any internal frag lines.
As can be seen from the last photo there is a hole in the base.
It is empty and the weight is 145g.

Does anyone know what its for/more info/why/where from/age etc etc please?

Thanks.

Dave.
