Vicker's 'S' Gun Rds.

40 mm

The next lot:

Pic 1 - proj marked AP 40m/m 1 HL Ltd and dated 1943
Pic 2 - note the base threads are far fewer in number than on the S gun marked proj.
Pic 3 - nose fuzed proj marked 40 m/m P VAD and dated 1941
Pic 4 - solid proj, no visible markings

I have 40mm marked cases ranging in date from 1932 to 1941.

So are these early S gun or just 40m/m contract rounds?

Coming late into this thread but hopefully of interest.

Pic 1 - a proj marked 40mm SAP CLASS SBH and dated 1944 LUVAX
Pic 2 - the base in close up
Pic 3 - another of the same design but with an adaptor in it
Pic 4 - an s gun case
My question is who was LUVAX - the manufacturer?
What base fuze was used? Does any one have pictures?

BD

Hi BD, thanks for showing all those S gun rounds and as for that case........that is one nice case, I've never seen one with the DD numbers on it, if you ever get a spare one do let me know please.
As for your questions I can't help you with the answers.
Are you sure the last one that is solid with no stamping isn't Bofors? I've never heard of a solid S gun projectile.
Dave.

Picture below of the 40mm bofors next to the solid proj. Did the bofors projs come in different lengths? In any case, I have never seen a solid bofors proj in 40mm - do you have a picure of one Dave?

And another 40 mm case made by the same firm that manufactured the case in the previous post that was marked 'SBH'.

Does the AP mean what it says?

Hi PC,

Picture of the base as requested - note no tracer. Length of proj is 162mm. Any help?

Thanks yes I see what you mean, SOLID, yes the Bofors has a tracer in it.
Side by side I agree with you it does look very "S gun" like, you've got a good one there too.
Dave.

Thanks for the link. I had been looking for that for ages! It looks like ours may be 'MkV shot as they are solid and have a tracer cavity in the base, and MkVT have the tracer cavity filled'. Or is it the other way around?

I saw a case with this HS at a car boot sale earlier in the year, shame it had been trench arted.
