Looking for any Austrian artillery shells, both rifled and smoothbore, from the time period of roughly 1840 to 1866. (slightly before or after, also welcome).
Even more than shells, I am looking for all types of fuses, especially Breithaupt, but all other types as well. Breithaupt fuses were used by other countries as well, so I would be happy with, say, a Swiss or German Breithaupt fuse instead. Any condition, ground dug is fine. I have only ever seen some of these shells and fuses as blueprints and drawings, so even pictures would be great. Thank You!Screenshot 2025-12-27 at 8.23.45 AM.pngScreenshot 2025-12-27 at 8.23.45 AM.pngScreenshot 2025-12-27 at 8.24.59 AM.pngScreenshot 2025-12-27 at 11.49.49 AM.pngScreenshot 2025-12-27 at 11.49.56 AM.pngScreenshot 2025-12-27 at 11.50.03 AM.png

I am not sure how much these help you...but you said pictures also help. Here are some photos from 2019 and 2022 from the (now, old) exhibition at the Military History Museum in Budapest.

Hello,

The website of the National Library of Spain features a book titled "Treatise on Fire Devices (Tratado de artificios de fuego)" by Gabriel Vidal y Ruby, published in 1890. It contains information and diagrams of Austrian fuses (and those from other countries as well). It comprises two volumes, one of text and the other of very detailed illustrations. The PDFs are OCR files in Spanish. Search for the word "Austria".

You can download it from this link.

A highly recommended book.

Hello,
here is a nice document, reading the text is a bit tricky.

To read it click the button " Prohlížet ve Čtečce"

There is also a scan of the Mitteilungen über Gegenstnde der Artillerie-und-Kriegs-Wissenschaften from 1867 that discusses early development of Austrian fuzes.

The available scan unfortunately lacks most of the the pictures. I would really like to see them.

Bob
