Unsure whether it was her fault or not as the story tells two tales

One moment its a Pyrotechnic ! next sentence its a Deactivated thunderflash ?
If it was a Pyro she should know better and should NOT PLAY WITH IT !
and why at 6am ? we were just getting up and heard the blues and two`s, next minute bomb squad had sealed the stall area off !! IN FULL GEAR !

Just it could have been one of us on here if we were into buying them !! maybe a lucky escape for someone

Just Hope this can help keep people aware of these types of dangers of rouge items especially if not deactivated properly or even deactivated at all , if thats the case ? and don't mess with PYROTECHNICS there made to go BANG ! either way it was not good especially for her

There are different stories I think the best way is to wait until the police has closed this case. It's not forbidden to collect these items in the UK, as long as you are older than 18 years. So lets wait and see.
 
The lady concerned was on the South East News last night. She was at W&P to exhibit her Russian Motor cycle Combination and bought 3 or 4 of these grenades for her collection. She said she was used to pyrotechnics. I think she said that she pulled the pin by accident and was surprised at the initial 'pop' then the main explosion was a few seconds later. The dealer who sold it declined to comment. John
 
hearing her speaking im still not really sure what went on, the one shown has a 12 gauge blank but she said it went of twice, very strange,,,,,, Dave
 
I am really sorry but this all sounds like somebody was plain stupid and is telling BS for a cover story.
And if she would have been used to pyrotechnics other than watching the new year fireworks this would not have happened.
If one handles an item that is meant to go boom he/she has to maintain basic safety procedures.
 
i agree with millsbomber and Eod,,although she unfortunately got a nasty injury something does not seem right with the story, as millsbomber pointed out the grenade shown at her home in the news said to be the same type is a dynatec blank firing grenade and only bangs once (out of the holes in the top portion),it uses a simple mechanical delay using from what i can gather a spring and O ring to create a 3 second delay and not a pyrotechnic delay...
having said that always check when buying

Hi everybody

I can actually confirm in this instance, what she said about the double bang is actually 100% true !!!.

My tent was only a few away from hers, and I was awake (still in getting up for work mode) when at 6.45am karen and me heard the double bang, then only a couple of minutes after that the onsite fire brigade and ambulances turned up.

I got out of the tent to have a look what was going on, and so had most of the group I was staying with, only to be evacuated from our tents by the show officials a few minutes after that, as they Had found other devices they wernt happy with.
we then got told to stand behind a cordon they had set up.

Not long after that EOD turned up from Folkestone.

I don't really want to comment on the in's and out of incident as the stall holder is a good friend of mine, i am sure the final outcome of this will will become public knowledge at some point in time.

I was just letting you know about my personal account of events that unfolded around my camping area.

This is how close we were, that's my tent.

They closed the road off in front of our camping area first where the guys stood, the tape in front of my tent is marking out our camping area.
then after that they evacuated us further back and we had to leave our tent.

Just caught up with this. I have to say I am appalled at the moronic imbecility of most of the comments to the Sun's piece. The poor woman has suffered a non-trivial injury to her hand and she surely does not deserve all those infantile Yah-Boo-Told-You-So-Serves-You-Right responses. A classic case of adding insult to injury. The only sympathetic commentator ('Hope her face gets better') couldn't get the body part right. And we are not certain at this stage of investigation whether the device itself was faulty.
 
I spoke to the dealer today who sold the pryo for reenactment, he was totally legal to sell this item and the police investigation has ended with no charges, i can confirm that the item was not a piece of ordnance, some times we all do silly things which might turn out to be the case here,,,,,,, Dave
 
So the 'victims' statement about being used to handling Pyrotechnics seems a little..er wobbley. John
 
Reading this posting I recall the comment of one of the members on the Dutch ammo forum;
"If a collector has a small accident with the firing cap of a 9mm ending in the tip of his finger, all hell breaks loose and the papers are filled with nonsence. If the same person descides to repair his lawnmower knives with a hangover and loses five fingers, you'll not find a word in the papers.
