What did I find? Very Large 170 X 1040 mm German Brass Shell Case

I found this in my own town, and it is available for me to procure if I desire. I think it is German as I removed a C12 primer from it with no date. Strangely, there are no markings on it at all. Dimensions are approx. 170-180mm wide at the mouth and 1040-1050 mm tall. What is it, and what is it worth? My current best guess is a German WWI 170mm naval gun. Thank you for your help.

The dimensions you give do fit that of the 17 cm German gun. I have a naval marked case of the same dimensions. I think,17cm sk l/40. Not sure of price though.

170x1051R203 would be the German 17 cm SK L/40, they both exist as WW1 and WW2. The first would do about 200 Euro over here, a WW2 dated case more like 350 in this condition.
