1915 Torpedoeded Ship for all the Torpedoe collectors here -
First off;
It's not a Boiler or Engine plate.
It is the ship builders name plate for the ship itself.
The number 137 is the yard number, that is the 137th ship built in the shipyard. The yard changed hands a few times but the numbers
ran on in order regardless. Northumberland's start at No76 in 1898. The only question remaining is when the name changed of the ship would they
take down the plate ? I rather doubt it myself being document of a sort to the ship. I am inquiring further and hopefully a bit more to be learned.
Information about the salvage of the ship would be great.
I was quite surprized as to the size of it when it arrived --
The ship was torpedoed off of Lewestoft in 1915 by UB16 carrying wheat - beached and broken in half. (Thus the invention of Puffed Wheat :xd: )
No lives were lost in the attack.
(I'll hang the rail wagon plate up on a porch wall, it was born the same year as I was.:tinysmile_cry_t3
