Whats left of a interesting box

Picked this up today , was a interesting box at one time before parts were taken off by the last owner

The fact that its found in Finland I would guess its Exploders for 25lb Aircraft bombs, or similar. What has been removed from either end is a block of oak and a wire rope handle.

Thank you for that looks like it had handles at both ends that have been removed , not sure what sort of lid it had on it
