Wound Casing, any ideas?

I had thought that wound cases were passe by the turn of last century, seems I was wrong.

Found this today at a flea market.

Length o/a: 14.5"
Mouth dia:4.25"
Head dia:4.625"

All steel construction. The head is pitted, as if it were standing on soil for some period. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Would likely be a 105mm howitzer case.
The coiled style was used into the 1970s-80s.Usually lacquered(brown) though some were Kronac coated.
They tend not to last too well as can easily corrode if not stored in ideal conditions,so not as common in good condition as the brass casings.
