WW1 shell cases...

Now these came from my Grandmother's house...

Any ideas ?

The large one is 91mm dia rim, 312mm long.

The other two (cut-down) are 91mm dia rim, and about 230mm long...

Of the two shorter ones, one reads :

st
184
POLTE
SEPT * 1915
MAGDEBURG
Mg3

While the other reads :

St
1
PATPONENFABRIK
JAN * 1909
KARLSRUHE

(Where the * is the primer)

Primer !

On your three cases the "Primer" cap is in the centre, the "Detonator" would be on a High Explosive shell or the "business end" that has already been fired from the cases.

13 Pdr.

The 13 Pdr. was the standard gun of the Royal Horse Artillery.

Your case was made by Viskers Sons & Maxim (VSM) in July 1915, as was the primer, and was loaded with a full charge (CF).
