WW1 spherical mortar or aircraft bomb

Hello,

I don't find anything about this item.

It is 120 mm in diameter and has a dummy fuze plug screwed in. It is not 100% round and not well made so I don't think it is a converted cannon ball.

-a german brass fuze for the Kugelhandgranate screws in well (1/2" 12 t.p.i.) but it must not mean anything.
-plug thread size is 42 mm x 11 t.p.i.
-plug diameter 44 mm
-wall thickness ~25mm

Anyone having an idea what it is or could be?

I would say that in its original form, with the large screw hole it resembles a 12 Pounder Boxer Diaphragm Spherical Shrapnel shell, which was fired from a cannon, sitting in a large wooden block. There may of course be other sizes of this style. Unfortunately I am having hardware problems at the moment so cannot produce photos.
These were still about in 1877.
