That is an interesting ammunition load. Most appears to be HE with smoke being the next largest quantity. Only eight rounds of AP. I am not certain what is in the fourth pile of only seven rounds.
I suspect load out was theatre specific. British Shermans, indeed all British tanks with 75mm, in NW Europe, carried 60% HE, 30% AP and 10% smoke in the fighting troops.
The caption on the back of the original picture states :-
41 HE, 15 WP, 7 HVAP and 7 Anti-personnel shells. The HVAP certainly look right, I wonder if the others are normal APCBC and the caption writer mistook the AP for anti personnel?
