WWI French Gas Grenade

Enclosed are pictures of an early WWI French gas grenade. I have been told a glass ball full of gas was in the center of the metal plates. Anyhow I think it's unusual and the only one I have seen.

You don't see many real Bertrand grenades. They are easy to fake and the majority going around are probably reproductions. Yes they had a sealed glass container in the middle. The glass broke easily and if a soldier had some in his pocket and dived for cover they would just as likely break in his pocket. Not popular.

Here's one with the glass ball inside.

Your one looks genuine.
