Does this fin look like its the right size? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1400439993.132246.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1400440008.379650.jpg

Got the body in trade from museum and the fin from a Military swap meet recently.

Hi ali059,I think the fin assembly should be a bit smaller, closer to the mean cross section of the bomb casing, apologies if I am wrong but it looks just a bit too large for the diameter of the casing, nice trade, well done,
Cheers,

I just checked on line and those fins could well be the correct ones,my apologies,
Don,

This picture from the US Air Force Museam in Dayton looks like the same set up as I have!

If they are the bigger fins in one of my manuals stated they could be used also.

I do love this since it is WWII and big, love the big stuff!!! Only problem it weighs a bunch as the body is full of what looks like concrete

WWII fin data:
The M44 1000lb GP takes the M112 fin assembly which is 18.5" long and 18.25" wide.
The M65 1000lb GP takes the M113 and M124 fins, dimensions as above.
There is another "1000lb size" fin, the M115, which is 19.5" wide, and was to be used with the M33 1100lb bomb.

If it is at all possible to get up close to the fill/concrete try a masonry drill into it,if it is a poor quality slurry mix it may actually break up quite easily,if not,to make it easy to move I suggest a hand pallet trolley and a cradle to support the bomb,it is in such good condition and it would make a super display item,
Regards,
Don,

If the fin fits around the rear end of the bomb, it is the right size. If you take a straight side view photo of it, the proportions could be easy to see. There is a posting here on BOCN where I listed the dimensions of the 1,000 Lb. fins. There is really only one size that goes around the rear of the bomb, where the fin retaining ring will screw onto the bomb and hold the fin. The next size fin is the 2,000 Lb. size and its twice as big as the one you have. The next size down from yours is the 500 Lb. size and its way to small to fit around the base of your bomb.
