Seems to be a few of these about lately one of my my friends bought one a few months ago,,,i have a document with the no6 mkII still in use in 2004,,
GENERAL
1 The Gauge Depth Vernier No. 6 Mk 2, consists of a Tuffnol rule
graduated in inches with a moveable slide piece carrying the Vernier scale.
SETTING UP
2 To prepare the Gauge Depth Vernier for use, a locking screw is provided in the
side of the slide piece and this can be turned by means of the slot provided. The
locking screw is to be tightened so that the slide piece can be adjusted up or down
under slight pressure from the fingers.
METHOD OF GAUGING
3 The Gauge Depth Vernier is to be operated as follows:
3.1 Insert the graduated rule into the exploder cavity until it rests on the
bottom. Take care not to foul the cavity sides.
3.2 Adjust the moveable slide piece until it is resting squarely on the fuse hole
lip.
3.3 Remove the gauge from the cavity and read off the depth of cavity on the
Vernier scale.
The example shown in the attatched image from the 2004 document is 55 dated
I used a gauge of this type in the 1980s, although the one I used was made after WW2. I don't remember which calibre(s) I was using it on but it could have been on 25 Pr, 105 mm Field, 155 mm or 175 mm or all of those. There was a de-plug, re-fuze job on 25 Pr HE shell that went on for about 18 months. The UK bought many thousands of them from PRB (Belgian manufacturer).
