Very nice,Darren,I wish they were in my measly little collection, the projectiles are French,I'm thinking, export items perhaps? Gordon will know!!

How long are the cases,Darren,I've quite often seen French projectiles
(there's lots around!!) put in 37 mm cases in which they don't belong.

Aha!!!! I was having a browse round trying to find images of Japanese
headstamps,and one round kept popping up,for the 37mm x134R Type 94
Tank Gun. Looks like that may be what you have there Darren,I'm afraid,
someone more knowledgeable may well disagree,we'll have to see.I'll find
an image of the complete round in a bit,but I suspect the projectile will
look somewhat different.

It will be interesting to see what others make of these.

If these are indeed the wrong projectiles i will be looking for the correct cases for these projectiles and the correct projectiles for these cases.

That will be some hunting! With a bit of luck someone on the forum may beable to help me out.

Cheers,
Darren

Date stamps

Both primers are dated September 1940, one case is September 1940 and the other June 1940. Primers and cases bear the stamp of the Osaka Army Arsenal - crossed cannons.

Tom.

Thank you for the information Tom, any idea if the projectiles are the correct/incorrect ones?

37mm

Projectiles appear to be 37mm French and not a match to the cases. The cases were identified as Japanese and I would say incorrect projectiles were put into the casings...Dano

Thanks for confirming that Dano, i will now be on a mission to find the correct cases/projectiles to make this pair into 2 complete pairs.

I don't know too much about Japanese shells, but I would expect a 37mm Type 94 or Type 98 round to have a Type 88 fuze, screwing directly into the steel casing.

Tom.

Sorry, meant to include the pic of two variations of Type 88 fuze.

Thanks for the information Tom, looks like ive got a bit of mix and matching to do. Will be keeping my eye out for a couple of 37mm French cases.

Japanese Fuzes

Thanks Dano. Getting away from the subject a bit, a couple of pics of a different Type 88 fuze - a large (4 inch high, 2 inch diameter) 30 second delay fuze, used with the Type 88 75mm Field/AA Gun.
