Paypal

Waff,

i have just signed up to google checkout which was quite simple, like opening a paypal a/c and going through all the usual formalities re bank a/c etc. Will have to see what happens. SA has a box for google checkout on its methods of payment acceptance on its listings. Just have to start again as a beginner i expect.

Andy
Hi gothica7,

I would appreciate any feedback on google checkout that you can offer. I never joined pay(unfriendly)people as they are part of e!!y.
The reason being, is that I used to collect the German Iron Cross, and e!!y does not allow anything on its site that shows the swastica, even if it is covered. It is about time they realised that us collectors, whether we collect ordnance, medals or whatever, are not terrorists or politically motivated in any way. We just want to enjoy our hobbies, and should be allowed to buy sell or swap, anything that is legal, without being ruled by them.

Best wishes,

Mike.

Paypal.

What really gets my goat with both eBay and Paypal is the fact that just because a completely harmless cigarette lighter i put on ebay once had the description 15-mm Besa cartridge lighter they pulled the plug on it. Now i could have quite understood had it got a live primer or something but it was a bloody lighter for heavens sake not something a terrorist could convert into a weapon of mass destruction and nor could it be classed as a firearm or weapon as they insisted it was in breach of. In future when listing such things i just put them down as trench art as it saves blood pressure in long run and you can then sell same items hassle free. Its stupid but there again so are a lot of the laws currently dogging this once fine country up the arse. As for inert ammo and mortar rounds etc its best to flog em here on BOCN which is probably best way. Regards All, Tim.

Hi Tim,
Blood pressure, I don't need anymore of that, I'm already taking the pills!
You are right about this once fine country, unfortunately I can't air my views in public, big brother is probably watching from a satellite from up above. As I am new here, and new to collecting, I take in the advice all you experienced guys have to offer. It sounds logical to deal through BCON, as we are all like minded people.

Best wishes,

Mike.

Hi guys,
i have used Google checkout once before, about 3 years ago,to pay for something as it was quite easy using a debit card. I had forgotten i had done so when i opened the new a/c today as all my old info was still on file making the a/c opening process a little easier. Even managed to recall the password so i will keep forum members posted as to how it all goes. I gather that for the first transaction i will have to wait 10 days to recieve the funds[like a new ebay/paypal a/c] and then after 60 days all will be normal like paypal. I will give it a go just to stick it in paypal's eye so to speak.
I believe there is a court case going on at the moment that if won, will cause ebay to have to allow Google checkout as well as paypal. Fingers crossed they win.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for that, the outcome of the court case will be interesting.

Hello guys!
They blocked my paypal account today becouse Im selling on specialist ordinance:tinysmile_cry_t4:
Basterds:evil:

Paypal sucks! It is a simple as that. I was with them for years with absolutely no problem. I did not get caught using the wrong wording, as it was them investigating my deals. Do they have a Gestapo department? Anyway they suspended me for 6 months and to tell you the truth I will never have anything to do with them again. Now I am 100% money order (except England as the International postal money order will not fly there, so to England I have to send Cash in US dollars). I hate sending cash in the mail, but nothing has failed as of yet to reach its destination. Paypal was convenient where you could buy and pay for an item in minutes, but alll good things seem to come to an end. Paypal may inhale the business end of an edible tuber...Dano

Hi again guys,
i just wonder why they do this, the loss of us fellows, following a perfectly legal thing in our respective countries, will cost them revenue in a time of world recession? Madness in my book. Must have nothing better to do. Seems to me there may be a purge going on but dont worry, i will continue selling on both ebay and SA. The game continues.....

Andy

Hi everyone......Isn't it simple just to setup another account? I realise that its a pain etc but I have a number of seperate paypal accounts and thus its possible.......if you still want one after all the hassle you've had

Dad's Army racist! Who do you think you are kidding, Mr eBay?

By Fay Schlesinger

The antics of the hopeless Home Guard heroes of Walmington-on-Sea are still raising a smile 33 years after the last episode was broadcast.
But it seems that Dad's Army is no laughing matter for the people who run eBay.
The auction website has banned from sale a board game based on the much loved comedy series, calling it 'offensive material' that could 'promote violence, hatred, racial or religious intolerance'.

article-1246724-080EA38E000005DC-219_468x332.jpg
Outraged: Seller Dave Davidson was told his board game breached eBay's offensive material policy because it had a Swastika on the cover

The family game features on its lid the swastikas and Union Flag symbols instantly recognisable from the opening titles of the series.
The board itself shows Walmingtonon-on-Sea, which has been occupied by Nazi troops.
Players roll a dice to collect 'bombs' and 'landmines' before swiping swastika markers off the board and replacing them with British flags to reclaim territory.
The aim is to get members of the platoon, including Captain Mainwaring, Sergeant Wilson and Corporal Jones, to a 'safe' location while watching out for the enemy.
The instructions say: 'In war you've not only the Jerry to contend with, but Dad's Army too - and we're not sure which of them's worse!'
The game was produced by Denys Fisher in the mid-1970s, at the height of the show's popularity.
Retired bank worker David Davidson, 62, came across the game while clearing out his loft and listed it on eBay with a starting price of 99p.
But the site then sent him an email banning him from selling the game because it was classed as 'memorabilia associated with the Nazi Party'.
Mr Davidson, from Droitwich, Worcestershire, said: 'Dad's Army is the most harmless TV programme in the world. There's no swearing, sex or violence and it's not Nazi memorabilia.'
He added: 'Instead of making a few quid and clearing some space, I've been made to look like I'm a racist or Nazi sympathiser. I'm very annoyed.'
He accused eBay of vetting content on the site 'without looking into anything properly. They allow coins and stamps with swastikas and there are hundreds of novels which are war stories that have them. It's ridiculous that they can't use common sense'.

Funnymen: The cast of Dad's Army, a popular TV show featuring characters in the Home Army during World War II

Mr Davidson, whose father John was stationed in Droitwich during the war in the Royal Army Pay Corps, said: 'My dad was like a character from Dad's Army. He could only see out of one eye and he had a laugh and joke with his workmates.
'His brother was killed in the Somme in 1915 so he knew all about war.
'The British people spent the war trying to laugh at these tinpot dictators and the situation they were in. That's what the programme Dad's Army and this game were all about.'
Paul Carpenter, of the Dad's Army Appreciation Society, said: 'When the show came out it was only 20 years after the war and people understood then, so they should understand now.'
Jenny Thomas, from eBay UK, said: 'We will remove listings that bear the marks of organisations that promote hatred and racial intolerance and we are strict and unapologetic in adhering to this policy.
'We have to apply this rule regardless of whether it is an innocent item like a board game.'
But there are a number of other items for sale on eBay carrying the swastika, including Dad's Army videos and an Escape From Colditz board game.
Some items have had their swastikas obscured. eBay also allows some historical items bearing swastikas, including stamps, letters and currency.

dirty rotten scoundrels

Andy

hello Andy,

having read this thread with great interest, as I was also often annoyed with the hypocritical behavior of that feebay-pal mafia.
simulaneously I had to laugh and learn something new - think I will take your three words mentioned above in my personal dictionary, they are sounding really unpleasant

Hi Sud,

i was being quite polite with my comments, should have been a lot worse as ive had to sign an affadavit to say i wont do it again and obviously they will be monitoring all my transactions from now on. One more sale identified as a gren and i will loose my paypal a/c. Ok, it wont be the end of the world but it is a convenience, especially buying and selling other items on feebay. There is more than one way around it though.
Best wishes bud.

Andy

Those B@st@rds! Sorry to hear that Andy.
eBay & PayPal are getting far too big. Competition is needed!
...I hope you didn't have any money in your account.

It looks like it's only a matter of time before we all get identified and banned. I guess that it's back to Postal Money Orders? They seem to be the next best option.

Cheers,
Brad

Hi all,

paypal have just closed down my account for selling grens etc. Looks like they are now targeting UK users so we must all watch out in future. I wonder if this isnt an infringement of my basic human rights as ime doing nothing illegal as far as this country is concerned. This will reflect on all of us who collect ordnance which paypal/ebay consider banned.

Andy

yeah ,the same shi* with my Paypal account ,i had to removed all Paypal options from my auctions...

Ok guys,
i have signed up to the Google Checkout, just got to be verified and have input the SA URL onto their system so once the verification process done in the next couple days, should be able to start selling without paypal. This should provide buyers with more security than sending me cash etc. Ile let you know how it goes.

I have also just been informed that ebay will still allow the sales of gren bits on their site and still allow paypal to be used to pay for them but not on any competitor site. I wonder if the Monopolies Commission would be interested in this as surely it cant be legal?

I am sure there is a big purge going on by Paypal at the moment as ime hearing about many more people having their a/cs frozen.

Andy

Dads Army Racist!!!

You couldnt make it up if you tried could you lol! Never had these stupid political correctness issues back in the 70's when i first started collecting militaria and the odd 'Nazi' item. I once had large collection of SS material which whenever anyone came round to view would allways cause raised eyebrows as to whether it was tasteful to invest in such things. To me they were just historical artefacts and the minute you start sweeping things under the carpet and denying certain areas that is when history is killed off. At middle school back in the 70's the head master and his deputy were both WW2 vets, yet odd that in all the years there in history there was this huge gap from the era 1914-1918 and 1939-1945. it was just early man and the roman empire and WW1 and WW2 had never happened! Yet the two old fellows kept whining at us that we would never understand the horrors of war. Well, wrong i did because my grandfather had both legs blown off by a German artillery shell. I saw the horrible stumps of his legs and it was nor a pleasant sight! He sadly died back in 1976 but i have his medals. Things like that used to puzzle me greatly. But nowadays things have gone completely cookoo! What next will big brother tell us we cant do?

I put up a temprature gauge from an old boiler on ejerk and had a firearms warning stating that it was illeagal to sell firearm bits etc:tinysmile_eyebrow_t, anyway i went ahead with the listing no problem. The only way to tackle these jerks is to spread the word and support other auctions and other payment methods. They need a bit of competition and a good swift kick up the pants. Maybe ejerk and payjerk are upset about people selling nazi items the swazsticker because its their adopted logo as they act like the gestapo. I also think that paypals polical correctness is a jobs worth problem generaly, not just with military items.
