Resto-relic German m1913 rifle grenade

Hi all, Since I don't have a lot of spare cash, I sometimes buy a dug relic grenade and fix it up, ending up with a very presentable grenade for display at a very small fraction of the cost of a nicer one. I thought i'd show this m1913 German rifle grenade bought as a relic and still a sort of "work in progress". I started with a relic dug m1913 German rifle grenade (untitled.jpg image) that I picked up on specialist auctions for 25.00GBP. Step one is clean-up. I have a good Dremel tool and put on the soft wire wheel attachment to remove rust. The small wire wheel gets into and removes rust and scale even in the frag grooves. Next is a few coats of of flat green paint to paint the body. I then go to hardware store and get the proper length of metal dowell to make the rod. I die some threads on so it screws to the body. the dowell rod costs about 4.00US. The almost finished product (thumbnail) is complete but still need to fabricate a fuze. In the end i'll end up with a very presentable m1913 GHerman rifle grenade for about 30GBP. When you're on a budget like me it helps immensly. Dano

Nice work Dano go ahead i like it when things get der life back !!

I was not knowing that the german rifle grenades are painted green thanks for that !!

Regards David

Looking good Dano, mucking about with relics can be great, I made a couple of cutaways from less than good M24 and M43 grenade bodys.
Your brass nose cap will be an easy part to make if you have a lathe handy

thanks guys

Thanks guys for the positive comments. Relics are the only way I can go to get some of the harder to get stuff, and Dave, in German Grenades of the Great War by Delhomme it states that m1913 and m1914 German rifle grenades were painted light green. I do enjoy working on them to try and return them to former glory, on the other hand there are some relics that I won't modify at all, as some I think better to leave as a relic (depends on the piece) and such.. Dano

thanks Dano

Thanks Dano for this information this with the green color was new for me !!

Regards David

Nice one Danno, good job.
It's great buying a really good condition one but a lot of fun doing one up too, that's what makes it so rewarding, there's something for everyone.
Dave.

any chance we can have a relic for sale section?
As i believe renovating relics is a hobby in its own right.
It gives us guys with not much cash to own somthing that could cost loads.
Danno you rod grenade looks mighty fine! keep up your good work!
18pounder

theres a classifieds section at the top of the page where you can buy and sell stuff

yes i know spotter
Just trying to encourage folk to sell more relics.renovating relics is a hobby in its own right.
Trying to get the finish 'right' can be very difficult but rewarding in the end.
