Safety Goggles always use them

I Thought i would be ok to do a silly two minute angle grinder job
without going to the van to get my goggles! How wrong was i or eye!

A small peice of cast iron got a direct hit right in my pupil and of to the A&E for four hours.

Next day still no better so up to moorefeilds were they removed a smaller
peice of cast that was previously missed.

so packed of with me anti biotic eye drops and a lot of pain two days later
still no better,so up to moorefeilds again and a lot of checking out by specialists and it was decided that my eye was having alergic reactions to the drops,so time to stop them and given some sterile eye lubrication drops like KY jelly in the eye world.

At the moment i have what looks like a cartoon swolen eye and can only see about 60% clearly and still hurts like sht.

The moral of the story is dont ever be as lazy as me always where the
proper safety kit as 5 minutes worth of delay has cost me 5 days agony.

Hi bud,
know whwere you are coming from, a few weeks ago i was felling a tree near Sevenoaks. Had all the protective gear on, just wasnt using glasses under the protective helmet and visor. Lifted the visor for a few minutes to see better in a shady area and a piece of woodchip flew into my left eye. Hell the pain was bad. Had one hell of a drive, 20 miles plus to my local Doc who told me to go to Maidstone hospital. Managed to get the wife of a mate to take me there and was very well looked after once treated. Scratched the cornea, my god it hurt, but will always, always wear the glasses/goggles in future. Only put up the visor for a few minutes too. Vision was blurred for a few days but soon returned to normal.

Hi Phil
Sorry to have heard of your problem get well soon , we have all done stupid things like that ! for my part i pulled out of a damaged scabbard a Kukri knife not knowing the case had split, i was very lucky not to have lost the use of my hand, as it very sliced through a tendon.

I bet that old blade was hard to pull out aswell as old wooden scabbards tend to grip on.

had a lucky ? one last year using a cup wire brush on my angle grinder without goggles, about a day after my eye started to get stabbing pains ,i put up with it for a couple of days then when it got really bad i went to see the M.O on the camp i was working on,he found a small scratch on my eye but nothing in it,diagnosis was a piece of the wire brush had got in my eye and fortunately worked its way back out
