Specialist Auctions

couldnt link to it earlier, but this happens from time to time with SA.........glad its not just me!!

It’s been out for a day and a half now and I have not known it to be completely down like this before and not even able to be found. Small issues do occur but you can normally get through to see the site page. I wanted to add several more auctions today but am starting to get a bit worried as I would hate to think this site is offline permanently. Hope its back up and running soon!

Can't see it being off for long. Was a mod for it when it first started but didn't have the time. The guy that set it up is making a killing off it now. If it is off for good, time to buy some auction software :)

I'm sure you can do a better job than SA!

Why don't people just sell their stuff on classifieds on BOCN?
Personally the only time I've ever advertised on line is on BOCN and I've sold loads of stuff over the years. The benefit for me is it puts me in touch with other collectors, gets rid of stuff I don't want and adds something to the site we all enjoy being part of.......plus you don't get stung with sellers fees.
I remember in the not too distant past when ebay got funny and wouldn't sell all the good stuff we like so a few key sellers moved to Specialist and it carried on as if nothing had happened. What's to stop that happening again with a mass move to BOCN? I'm sure word would get around that this is THE site to buy from.
Of course I have no idea that is involved with all that electronic traffic suddenly hitting the site so (Bolo and Spotter) please forgive me if I'm volunteering you for lots of headaches!
Dave.

Whole heartedly agree with you Dave and I think the numbers of BOCN members would grow because of it too...would like to see a few tweaks done on our classifieds though...easier pay pal link for example (for the pay pal fans of us!)....I have used our classifieds before without much luck, odd thing is I sell to a lot of BOCN members on SA!!!

To be honest and meant in the nicest way our classified section is a awful waste of resources at the moment, just check the amount of BOCN members buying and selling on SA compared to the ones using our classifieds.....so come on guys lets give it a go:tinysmile_fatgrin_t.

I agree Tony that our classified section needs to be looked at, and perhaps it then will take off and also take a small percentage like SA do for running costs.
Cheers
Andy

If your going to take a percentage as Andy is suggesting then it has to be perfect and as good as if not better than SA. I dont think taking a percentage is a good idea at all. Look at the previous comments Andy, the attraction would be for members to jump ship and move to BOCN as it would be FREE. Spec Auctions is now a commercial operation even though it has many very basic features which could be vastly improved it is still a good platform to sell ordnance. The BOCN classifieds section is simply not good enough to attract frequent sellers to move to, otherwise we may as well move to Gunstar ! I have approx. 100 auctions active on SA at any one time and I would move if it offered as stated above the same if not better functionality of SA. The only downside would be SA attracts new customers all the time and although BOCN has this ability - people join this site for various reasons and not purely to buy stuff. BOCN is not marketed as an auction site, it is a repository of information for like minded individuals and unless the boys who run the site wish to change the parameters of BOCN I cant see it pulling in the same amount of potential buyers as SA. A good discussion thread for future thought though. Marcus

I agree with Andy....if Bolo and Spotter put in the work and costs to improve the classifieds then I for one would be more than happy to pay a percent on sales...no, BOCN isn't marketed as a auction site, neither is SA marketed as a forum but it has one, I wouldn't like to see BOCN primarily as auction site with a forum either and of course it wouldn't have the same amount of potential buyers as SA ect(at first! I remember looking at SA when it first 'opened' and saw tumble weeds blowing around!) but I do think it would 'claw back' the many BOCN members who do not use our classifieds.

Tony

well lets see what the top brass has to say it might be to much to take on as it will have to be moderated but i am sure theirs members on here that a more then qualified to do the job also the funds will help to run the site.
Andy

I personally think its a good idea, the classifieds in its present state can be difficult to use and could do with a make over
I cannot do any of this myself though as im not good with computers and dont know what it entails, Bolo is the only one who maintains the software and upgrades etc so i have sent him an email regarding this topic

Hi,

It's been a while since I last looked into improving the classifieds system. I remember reaching the conclusion that the classifieds systems available at the time that would integrate into the forum were either worse or with no benefit to what we currently have. There are other options available to us however, but not all systems will work with the forums user database, which means you would most likely have to register as a user again in the classifieds system. If this isn't a problem for people then it opens up a lot more options for us.

Regardless I'll revisit whats available today and see what our options are as there is clearly a need.

Does anyone else find it rather odd that 'current' SA mods who are BOCN members are being rather quiet????......sssshhhhhhhh

Well, best to say nothing when niothing is known! The site was being upgraded to incorporate some improvements/repairs when the server apparently crashed. As I understand it the bug that has caused the problem has not been identified so the site is not able to run. Seems strange that it should be out for so long, but the problem is being worked on. Obviously this is an inconvenience and if I get an update I will pass it on.

Hi Tony,
Totally agree with you.
I can promise a minimum of 600 listings.
The problem with SA is looking dire,we have had a few days down here and there, but not this long.
As the moderator for the under 20mm section of SA i have received many emails concerning SA offline so, yesterday,i emailed the site owners about this problem, the email was returned undeliverable.
What happens now?
Terry.

A quick update from the backroom of BOCN,
BOLO is currently looking into auction software and we are already trialing some behind the scenes with the assistance of some other members,

Thats all for now
Allan
