1 pounder vicker mk 111 looking for info

Hello, I have this projectile which I believe is a 37x69r 1 pounder Vickers mk111. It looks to be dated 11/16 which would be ok for a one pounder, but the marking above which reads JAP have me puzzled? Is this a British manufacturer or a Japanese contract projectile? I cant make out any other markings without removing the paint ( I dont think the paint is original).I can find very little about these 37x69r projectiles on the internet any help would be much appreciated

Jap were a British company who made motorcycles, engines and shells in ww1. Google them.
