Hello,

I have this 105x607R case but I am lost since the markings say 105mm M115 but I can only find a howitzer and this is meant to be a Tank gun? And can someone ID the manufacturer? Thanks.

Its an early U.S. 105mm Tank Gun Case. The later ones are all steel. The Manufacturer was Norris Industries in Vernon California. I worked at the factory. It is for APDS-T and TPDS-T projectiles.

When the U.S. adopts a new cased round, they use brass for the case. Once it works well, they go to steel and stop using brass, at least for 105 tank rounds.

You can find out more about the rounds in TM 48-0001-28 Artillery Ammo. Its available on the web.

At 1962, your case is in the Early Vietnam timeframe. I don't think they had the M60 tanks in Nam that early though.

Thanks Hazord! Apparently, M60 Tanks armed with this gun were never deployed to Vietnam, still an interesting find to me. I have now to find a projectile, which isn't going to be easy I guess.

Hazord,

The M115 case (and the B & B1) were still listed in TM 43-0001-28, 1994 edition amended in 2003, would this be legacy ammunition? Also, the British 105mm, of which it is directly related to is 105 x 617R, my first reaction was that it was a possible typo' by the OP, but it appears that some US cases were 105 x 607R, any idea why?

Tim G, to add to your remark, the French Canon 105 F1 is 105 x 607R and the case looks identical to this M115 case (the guy I got it from had one and I compared them). Are these related somehow?
