Well I guess some of you will have seen this from specialist auctions over the last few weeks and yes I finally caved in and went for it, I do like a challenge so this ones a bit of a long term restoration project.
To help with the restoration can anyone tell me what the original finish on the case would be. Is is brass washed steel? I've never seen one of these in good original condition so if anyone has one they can take a photo of it would be appreciated.
The gun fired a 27.9 kg (57.2-pound) shell at 880 m/s (2,890 ft/s) to a maximum ceiling of 14,800 m (48,556 ft).
I've attached a few photos of the case just to show how large it is. It makes the 88mm (in the background) look small and gives the 155mm projectile a run for its money.
