122mm Unknown Shell, Maybe Russian?

Hey everyone here,

I am looking for answers on a shell that I got, and I hoped that you guys could support me on finding the answer, since I'm quite curious about finding some answers.

It appears to be a 2nd world war shell, and I was wondering on which vehicles it could be used.

This are the measurements of the shell:

126 mm top diameter
142 mm bottom diameter
785 mm length

Tell me please - what`s wrote on shell`s bottom? Numbers looks like russian/soviet, but I can`t understend letters.
Does it have any marking on the body?
I think it could be 122-mm D-25T for IS-2.

The case is for Soviet 122mm field gun model 1931. Also known as A-19

With the case being from 1940 it can not having been made for any tank gun of that time. Means it is for a regular artillery piece.
The black ink markings on the case wall would help a lot here.

The case is made by factory #176:
Machine Building Factory "Shtamp" Named After B. L. Vannikov, Tula

The markings say:

Is that where the "40Г" stands for?

And there are no black ink markings on the side anymore. I didn't whipe them off though.

It does not have any markings on the body itself.

Could it be possibly shot by a A-19S?

The person from who I bought it, said that it probably is a M1931/37 shell or a German 12.2 cm K.390/2 or a 12.2 cm K.390/1. He couldn't verify that though.

If it made in 1940 - I agree with you - it`s for A-19. By the way D-25 is tank version A-19

390/1(r) is the same as Russian model 1931, 390/2(r) is model 1931/37. Only difference is in carriage. Both use same ammunition.

Yes, this is the production year.
