I think it must be, however, there is normally a broadarrow within the 'U'. I have seen a WWII 25 PR case (Canadian manufactured) with the aforementioned mark on it, so it was still being used in that period. I have no information on the manufacture of artillery cartridge cases by South Africa during WWII, do you have any?
