13 pounder projectile.

This is a recent addition. Its a bit old compared to what I usually collect but I like it.
It must have been picked up the day it was fired as its in great condition.
The fuze is alloy (the goldish colour on the fuze appears to be varnish).
The remains of green paint in the lettering and yellow on the base are presumably the remains of incorrect repainting sometime in the past?
All INERT and empty.

I know it is made by Vickers (VSM). But the small symbol on the base looks much like the Hotchkiss logo. Is this one common on such shrapnels?

Very nice example there. It's odd that projectiles in as good condition as that are usually fired. The unfired examples are often pitted from having been buried.

After a lot of searching I finally got a case for it. Its a bit late for the projectile but will have to do.

Speaking of 13pdr's what is the difference between the QF 13pdr projectiles & the 13Pdr 9Cwt projectiles, or do they both use the same sort???

Hi Dave, nice to get a 13pr case as they are much more scarce than the 18pr; unfortunately yours is a MkII which was 'rolled'/'coned' into a recess at the base of the driving band. The original MkI had a number of distinct cannelures for the recess in the shell body underneath the driving band, as seen on the last picture of your original set. Regards, Depotman
