Good morning, I have a 13pdr MkV shrapnel shell with manufacturers stamping reading B.S. Co. T.C.O

Can anyone tell me who the manufacturer was?

many thanks, Dave

If the markings were B.S.Co. and T.Co. it might suggest Bethlehem Steel Co., USA, as the shell manufacturer and Tredegar Iron Works, USA, as the steel supplier.

Bethlehem had contracts for complete 13-pr Shrapnel cartridges, viz the example attached.

Dave,

Do you have an image of the marks you can post? There are countless cartridge cases etc., that are marked up Bethlehem Steel Co., but they didn't make any of them as they subcontracted the work. It's possible that this projectile was work subcontracted to Tredegar Iron Works.

See the attached Tim, as it’s on the curve, I’ve taken 2 photos. Not so easy to make out due to the shell having been machined with a blunt cutting edge!
