It has a ballistic cap, and also a base cavity, the projectole has been made in 1944

Is it a small base cavity for a AP projectile?

It is strange that the base ring is so far up. Not that I have seen many sabot projectiles but any I have the base ring forms a propellant gas seal at the bottom. A lot of the projectile must have fitted inside the separate case.
